Leadership and Teacher Education Online Graduate Programs

The Department of Education and Professional Studies offers multiple Master of Education (M.Ed.) and Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree programs that can be completed online. Some of the below programs also offer in-person courses as an option.

Online M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education

The Master of Education in Elementary Education is a 30-hour online program that provides advanced study for teachers who already hold a valid bachelor's-level certificate in elementary education. The program can be completed in one or two years. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for the Alabama Class A Professional Educator Certificate in Elementary Education (K-6).

Online M.Ed. in Elementary Education

The Master of Education in Elementary Education is a 30-hour online program that provides advanced study for teachers who already hold a valid bachelor's-level certificate in elementary education. The program can be completed in one or two years. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for the Alabama Class A Professional Educator Certificate in Elementary Education (K-6).

Online M.Ed. in Educational Administration & Leadership for Higher Education

Gain skills and knowledge to prepare for or advance a career in higher education. Students and graduates of this online program work in higher education organizations and associations as well as in universities or community colleges and specialize in areas ranging from housing and residential life to athletics to multicultural affairs.

Online M.Ed. in Secondary Education (Class A Certification in P-12, ESOL only)

The Master of Education leading to Certification in ESOL is a 30-hour online program that provides advanced study for teachers who already hold a valid bachelor’s-level certificate in any area. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for the Alabama Class A Professional Educator Certificate in ESOL (P-12). This program includes a field experience component which may be completed in a teacher’s own classroom if access to English language learners exists in the school setting.

Online M.Ed. in Collaborative Teaching

The Traditional Collaborative Teaching M.Ed. and Alternative Collaborative Teaching M.Ed. online programs lead to eligibility for Alabama certification in Special Education at either the elementary or secondary level. The programs focus on teaching all students with disabilities in all types of educational settings.

Online Ed.S. Instructional Specialist (Class AA Certification in Teacher Leader only)

The Teacher Leader online graduate program is designed to provide candidates with the opportunity to develop as a teacher leader. Successful completion of the program leads to the Ed.S. degree and qualifies the candidate for recommendation for the Alabama Class AA Professional Educator Certificate as a Teacher Leader.
