Spring 2021 Student Info

What COVID-19 expectations are in place as students return to campus for the spring 2021 semester?

Students who are on campus for the spring 2021 semester for classes or other activities will complete Screening, Training, and Testing:

  • Complete the Spring 2021 USA Jaguars Getting Back to Campus Safely training course and sign the South Strong pledge: Before you begin classes on 1/19/21, take a few minutes to complete this online training. You’ll watch an informative video, complete a quiz, and sign the South Strong pledge. The course is available in Canvas. This course is required for all Spring 2021 students, even those participating remotely or enrolled in fully online classes. Have questions? Contact the COVID-19 Response Office at covid19@southalabama.edu.
  • Complete the Jag Healthcheck screening upon return and demonstrate a clear/green passport. Students coming to campus will continue to complete Jag Healthcheck symptom screening throughout the Spring 2021 semester (recommended daily, required every three days). See Information for Students on the Reopening website for more details.
  • Comply with COVID-19 testing protocols outlined by the University. GuideSafe sentinel testing will continue throughout the spring semester with a randomized group of students will be invited for testing each week, with a higher percentage of students tested during the first few weeks of the semester. Residential students will be tested during the first week of classes and should monitor their email for instructions. Testing plans may change based on our ability to access low-cost testing options and the overall status of COVID-19 risk.

To stay #SouthStrong in 2021, we will continue to follow current operations with masking, social distancing, and hand sanitizing. Events and visitors on campus will not be allowed without appropriate approvals. As always, if you have symptoms of COVID-19 or think you might have been exposed to COVID-19, stay home and complete Jag Healthcheck. Contact Student Health at StudentHealth@SouthAlabama.edu (251) 460-7151. All employees and students are required to immediately report confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 to USA’s contact tracing team at ReportCovid@SouthAlabama.edu. Instructions on how to report are contained on the student section of the University’s reopening website. We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic, so keep an eye on your email and the Reopening website for updates.
