Representatives from the Whiddon College of Medicine presented research on pre-medical advising at the 2026 AAMC Together We Lead Joint Conference in Orlando, Florida. The study was selected for poster presentation at the regional meeting hosted by the Southern Group on Student Affairs, the Group on Collaboration, Engagement and Community, and the Organization of Student Representatives.

At the forefront of the initiative is Jumoke Adelabu, a third-year medical student whose leadership and lived experience within the medical education pipeline have been instrumental in shaping the work. Adelabu helped lead the study, which examines how pre-medical advising varies across four-year institutions in Alabama, with a focus on access, preparedness and equity for future physicians.

Adelabu was joined by LoRen Modisa, Ed.D., and Tiquera Hall, Ph.D., from the Whiddon College of Medicine Office of Health Advancement. Together, they highlighted the college’s ongoing commitment to leadership, innovation and collaboration in healthcare education.

The project reflects a strong partnership between student leadership and institutional mentorship, with a shared goal of strengthening advising systems, improving alignment across the pre-medical pathway, and expanding equitable opportunities for students pursuing careers in medicine.
