Dr. Binata MukherjeeBinata Mukherjee, M.D., MBA, assistant dean for faculty and professional development at the Whiddon College of Medicine, recently led a session on academic medicine coaching through the Cleveland Clinic Center for Excellence in Coaching and Mentoring.

Mukherjee presented the virtual development session, titled “Integrating Visual Metaphors in Coaching,” to an international audience of participants. The interactive workshop explored how visual metaphors can deepen reflection, broaden perspectives and enhance the coaching experience.

During the session, participants examined the distinctions between traditional verbal-only coaching and visual-metaphor-aided coaching while exploring the science behind visual metaphors and their benefits in coaching practice. Using the Points of You method, attendees were guided through a four-step process designed to encourage reflection, identify shifts in perspective and compare insights gained through visual imagery with those from other coaching experiences.

The session concluded with a discussion of the growing body of research surrounding visual metaphors and their role in coaching and professional development.

Since its founding in 2009, the Cleveland Clinic Center for Excellence in Coaching and Mentoring has been at the forefront of transforming healthcare culture through relationship-centered coaching.
