Solidarity Week scheduleMembers of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) at the Whiddon College of Medicine gathered in the lobby of the Mastin Professional Building with carts full of snacks, flowers, Valentine’s candy and Mardi Gras beads — thoughtful gestures meant to brighten the day for patients and staff across USA Health hospitals and clinics.

As part of Solidarity Week for Compassionate Patient Care, the students set out to deliver moments of joy and connection throughout the academic health system.

“Gold Humanism Honor Society’s Solidarity Week serves as a reminder that compassion, empathy and kindness are at the center of patient care,” said Corinne Gautreaux, a fourth-year medical student and GHHS member. “We hoped to highlight the importance of human connection and our commitment to stand with patients and one another through the small moments each day.”

Solidarity Week, held annually around Valentine’s Day, celebrates the bond of trust and compassion between patients and clinicians that is essential to high-quality care. As students made their rounds, they handed out treats and cards, surprising patients and healthcare workers alike.

“We were delighted to see the joy that was shared during these visits,” Gautreaux said.
