EG 283: Statics
Prerequisites: Calculus II, Physics I
Statics is a prerequisite for two of the three Engineering (EG) courses which are typically taken in the spring of the sophomore year and serves as the introduction to the concepts of forces and moments which are foundational in Civil Engineering systems. Students who complete Statics in the spring of their sophomore year, may take EG 284: Dynamics and EG 315: Mechanics of Materials during the summer following their sophomore year, placing them in an excellent position to graduate in two years following their matriculation to South Alabama. Students who complete Statics during the summer following their sophomore year will likely require two and a half years to graduation following matriculation and those who plan to take Statics in the fall of their junior year will likely require at least three years to graduation.
Other prerequisite courses for the junior year that can be taken at most community colleges are Calculus-based Physics I, Probability and Statistics, and Differential Equations.
