USA Health Clinical Trials tableThe USA Health Clinical Trials Office (CTO) and the USA Office of Research Compliance and Integrity recently celebrated their fourth annual Clinical Trials Day. Sponsored by the Society of Clinical Research Associates, the event recognizes the vital role clinical research plays in advancing patient care and shaping the future of medicine.

This year’s theme, Where Hope Meets Discovery, highlighted the partnership between patients and clinical research professionals working together to bring new treatments and therapies to life.

The celebration also marked the launch of a new patient-facing website designed to provide educational resources for individuals interested in participating in clinical trials. Informational materials were distributed at the entrance of the USA Health Mitchell Cancer Institute and will remain available in clinic waiting areas. Clinical trials staff hope to expand these educational initiatives across additional USA Health locations in the coming years, recognizing public education as an essential step in building trust and awareness around clinical research.

The event honored the clinical trials team and CTO Director Stefanie White with lemon-themed treats, certificates of appreciation, and a presentation on the significance and history of clinical trials. The citrus theme was a nod to history: International Clinical Trials Day is celebrated annually on May 20 to commemorate Dr. James Lind’s 1747 experiment aboard a British Royal Navy ship, which discovered that citrus fruits cured scurvy, marking the world's first randomized clinical trial.

During the celebration, Christopher Davies, Ph.D., associate dean for research at the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine, thanked the staff of the Clinical Trials Office for their dedication and commitment to advancing patient-centered research.

“Working in clinical research requires navigating a uniquely complex environment that demands scientific rigor, regulatory excellence, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to patient care,” Davies said. “The efforts of the clinical trials team are essential to advancing new therapies and bringing hope to patients and families across our community. We are incredibly proud of the work being done at USA Health and grateful to everyone who contributes to this mission of discovery and healing.”
