Auditions for the Jaguar Marching Band Colorguard will occur on-campus on Saturday, April 25, 2026. Plan for auditions to start at 9:00 AM and last until 4:00 PM with a lunch break at noon. 

Auditionees should plan their travel accordingly. Numerous hotels and restaurants are located a close distance from campus for those coming from a longer distance.

What to wear to the audition day:

  • Black Leotard
  • Black dance shorts or leggings (tights or pantyhose are optional)
  • Black or beige split sole jazz shoes
  • Hair and makeup should be performance ready

What to prepare for the audition day:

Each auditionee should prepare a routine that is 1-2 minutes in length that includes at least 30 seconds of dance and 30 seconds of equipment (flag). Those students wishing to audition on weapon can include rifle work in addition to the above requirements. No more than one minute of extra time, please!

Auditionees will not need to bring their own equipment.  All equipment will be provided for the audition! You may want to bring equipment that you are familiar with to perform your individual routine. Everyone will use our flag poles for the group routine. 

Audition results are typically released within one week of the audition date.

To audition for the Jaguar Marching Band Colorguard, you must be fully admitted to the University of South Alabama. Membership is open by audition to all full-time, admitted incoming freshmen and transfer students.

Step 2 - Fill out the Jaguar Marching Band Colorguard Audition Form

To register for your audition you will need to fill out the Jaguar Marching Band Colorguard Audition Application!  This application is our way to know that you intend to audition for the Jaguar Marching Band and the USA Jaguar Marching Band Colorguard!

Jaguar Colorguard Audition Application

The Jaguar Colorguard adds vibrant color, dynamic motion, and field coverage to the USA Jaguar Marching Band. We seek energetic performers who can consistently bring these elements to every performance. The USA Colorguard is under the leadership of Mrs. Jordan Looney. 

Rehearsals:

  • Guard Sectionals: Monday 4:15–5:45 PM
  • Full Band rehearsals: Wednesday–Friday 4:15–5:45 PM and Saturdays before football games

Membership Requirements:

  • Must be admitted to the University of South Alabama
  • Age limit: 28 years or younger as of August 1 of the audition year
  • Enrollment in University Marching Band course (MUO 130) is required

Scholarships and Costs:

  • $2,100 renewable annual scholarship, increasing by $200 per year (max 4 years)
  • No dues, fees, or fundraising required
  • All equipment, uniforms, travel, and lodging fully provided by the University

Physical & Appearance Standards:

  • No strict height or weight limits, but members must maintain healthy physical condition
  • Members must uphold grooming, poise, posture, and uniformity standards
  • Failure to meet standards may lead to probation or dismissal

Participation Expectations:

  • Attend all band performances and rehearsals
  • Required attendance at Band Camp in August (exceptions for drum corps)
  • One credit hour earned through band course registration

The University of South Alabama Winterguard was created to foster positive experiences for all who participate, by promoting education, creativity, and freedom of expression through pageantry and the performing arts. The USA Winterguard is open to all students at USA who are members of the Jaguar Marching Band. The members of the USA Winterguard perform as a visual unit that strives for excellence, education, and entertainment for our audience and members of the team. 

Members must be full-time students at USA to participate in the Winterguard and be a member of the Jaguar Marching Band. The USA Winterguard technique course rehearses Mondays from 4:00-5:00pm.  The competitive USA Winterguard rehearses Monday and Thursdays from 5:00-8:00PM during the spring semester.  All members of the USA Winterguard must enroll in the appropriate section for the  University Winter Guard Course.
