Drumline

Audition Information
The Jaguar Marching Band Drumline Auditions will be held on April 4th, 2026.
Auditions are conducted in full section format, with students rotating through various player combinations. Afterward, individual sight-reading and playing are required. Placement is based on both personal strengths and the needs of the section, so students should be ready to audition on multiple instruments (e.g., bass/tenors, cymbals/snare).
The staff values musical aptitude, adaptability, and attitude over perfection. If asked to play something unprepared, do your best—your willingness to learn is key.
- Bass Drum: Prepare parts 1–5.
- Cymbals: Choose one split part (A or B). Cymbal audition includes techniques like crashes, chokes, hi-hats, sizzles, slams, slides, zings, and taps. If unfamiliar, just try your best—training will be provided at camp.
Audition results will be posted during camp.
The Jaguar Drumline emphasizes leadership, musicianship, teamwork, preparation, responsibility, commitment, and a positive attitude. Success depends on demonstrating these values throughout the season and working well with others.
- Preparation: Practice consistently and review the audition packet thoroughly. Confidence comes from preparation.
- Technique: Use a relaxed, rebounded grip with strong control and sound quality across all tempos and styles.
- Reading Skills: You must read music fluently. With around 50 charts to perform, strong rhythmic reading and sticking understanding are essential.
- Memorization: Shows dedication and readiness. Memorizing material is expected and valued, especially since auditions occur in the prior school year.
- Collegiality: Show respect to both fellow students and staff at all times.
- Teamwork: Embrace your role, support your section, and prioritize the group’s success over personal placement.
