Early Acceptance Program

We offer two opportunities for early acceptance into the upper division professional component of the curriculum (junior and senior year). Admission to the upper division is competitive and selective. The first is for high school seniors and the second is for students who have completed the freshman year at USA.

For High School Seniors

Nursing Students in classThe College of Nursing has an early acceptance program for highly qualified high school seniors. Students participating in the early acceptance program are guaranteed admission to the upper division professional component of the nursing curriculum. To be considered for the CONEAP, high school seniors must complete all application procedures, have earned a minimum high school grade-point average of 3.5 based on a 4.0 system as computed by USA, submit an ACT score of at least 25 composite (or 1200 SAT), and must have demonstrated leadership qualities and motivation toward the study of nursing. Students are admitted to the College of Nursing and must complete all Pre-Professional Nursing courses at USA; their curriculum includes core requirements and prerequisites for the upper division nursing program. Students participating in the College of Nursing's Early Acceptance Program must maintain an overall GPA of 3.2 on all required prerequisite courses and must be continuously enrolled a minimum of 12 credit hours each semester (does not include summer terms) and making acceptable progress toward completing the pre-professional component of the curriculum to be admitted to the professional component of the program.

For USA Students Who Have Completed the Freshman Year at USA

A second opportunity for participation in the CONEAP is available to students who have completed their freshman year of pre-nursing prerequisite courses at USA and have achieved an overall GPA of 3.2 or above (as computed by the USA Registrar's Office).

Academic Requirements

Applicants must have:

  1. A 3.2 minimum GPA for all courses completed at USA, as computed by the USA Office of Admissions
  2. Completed the freshman year of college
  3. Completed the following courses at USA: BLY 101 with Lab, MA 110 or 112, and CH 101/with Lab
  4. Be approved by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for the College of Nursing
  5. Maintain a 3.2 GPA throughout pre-nursing prerequisite coursework
  6. All final grades must be a C or better.
  7. Must apply at the end of the spring term of the freshman year up until the beginning of the fall term of the sophomore year.

Health Requirements

Students accepted into this BSN program in the College of Nursing are required to complete all requirements under Medical Documents Manager as listed on the Health Requirements Webpage at http://www.southalabama. edu/colleges/con/clinical/ healthrequirements.html.  All requirements should be completed no later than one month prior to the first day of classes for the professional component.  Students are not required to order a Castle Branch account until they have been accepted into the professional component.
