This fall, the Whiddon College of Medicine welcomed four new faculty and staff members. The COMmunicator asked each to introduce themselves as they began their new roles in medical education and administration.

Groups of medical students at the Whiddon College of Medicine clapped and cheered as M1s were called to the front of the auditorium on the final day of orientation in July. The 80 incoming students were being sorted into five wellness houses named for the rivers that empty into Mobile Bay.

A peer support network and monthly lunch and learns are among the initiatives aimed at helping medical students at the Whiddon College of Medicine improve their wellness and increase resilience.

The Class of 2026 is the largest matriculating medical school class in the history of the Whiddon College of Medicine, which welcomed its charter class in 1973.

Members of the Culinary and Lifestyle Medicine Interest Group prepared this recipe during their August session that was led by the group's co-presidents, John Paul Saway and Olivia Durant.

Johnson Haynes Jr., M.D., assistant dean of diversity and inclusion at the USA College of Medicine, was USA's first African American resident, chief medical resident and clinical and basic science faculty member.
