Whether you have just purchased a camera and want to learn how to use it or wishing to learn more advanced camera skills, the Photography Certificate Program is designed for anyone who appreciates "writing with light."


About the Certificate

USA's Photography Certificate Program teaches the essential skills needed to develop or enhance your photography skills in both foundational areas and areas of your interest. The program provides training in several areas of photography including:

  • Camera use
  • Flash techniques
  • Portraits
  • Wedding photography
  • Studio lighting
  • Image editing software
  • Small business skills specifically for photographers

Certificate Requirements

To earn a certificate, a student must successfully:

  • Complete four required courses
    • Digital I
    • Digital II
    • Photoshop or Lightroom
    • Studio Lighting
  • Complete 42 hours of combined electives 
  • Complete a portfolio review
  • Submit the $40 non-refundable certificate fee.

Photography courses are routinely added to course offerings. 

Coursework must be completed within three years.


Attendance Policy

Students cannot have more than two absences for classes with five or more sessions; more than one absence with four sessions; and no absences for three sessions or less.


The USA Center for Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel any courses that do not have sufficient enrollment. In this instance a full refund will be give to students.

Failure to attend classes does not constitute withdrawal. The USA Center for Continuing Education must be notified of intent to withdraw by telephone (251) 460-7200 or in writing two business days prior to the course start date to receive a full refund. No refunds will be issued once a course has begun.
