Dear Arts and Sciences Students, Alumni, and Faculty:

While we have all faced challenges this spring, there are many positive developments in the College of Arts and Sciences. An especially important one is the pending graduation this week of 382 Arts and Sciences graduate and undergraduate students. To the graduating students of the Arts and Sciences class of 2020, I have followed your academic progress in our College, and I can say with great confidence that we are sending extraordinarily bright, talented, and capable graduates out to begin new careers. I’m very proud of all your hard work and commitment, and I am certain of your future success. Congratulations!

I would like to thank the parents, family members, friends, and Arts and Sciences faculty members of our graduates for their support over the years at South. I know you share with me a feeling of pride in what our South graduates have accomplished and will, no doubt, go on to achieve.

As I’m sure you are aware, we are not going to be able to celebrate our graduates’ achievements this month in person due to COVID-19. However, we can view the official awarding of degrees at 11 a.m. CDT on Saturday, May 9, by visiting the USA homepage at SouthAlabama.edu and clicking on the large banner image. Following the event, the complete ceremony will remain viewable on YouTube and Facebook.

The College is also recognizing many of our graduates on Facebook and Instagram. All pending graduates have been invited to send in a story and picture, and we are posting them as they arrive. The College’s Facebook page is viewable at: https://www.facebook.com/USAArtsandSciences/.

And the College Instagram page is here: https://www.instagram.com/usaartsandsciences/.

Please check out these pages and see the many wonderful stories from our graduating class.

In the coming years, I would ask you graduates to not forget your College, former professors, and fellow and future Jaguars. I encourage you to stay in touch by keeping us updated on the achievements in your personal lives and your careers. You can do this by joining the Facebook page above and also by joining the College Email list by clicking on the “Receive Newsletter” link on the College homepage here: https://www.southalabama.edu/colleges/artsandsci/.

Finally, graduates, please keep in touch and, when you are able, consider giving back by supporting the College’s activities, programs, and scholarships. I and the entire College of Arts and Sciences family are very proud of you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Andrzej Wierzbicki
Dean
