Message from the Dean: Spring 2018
The College of Arts & Sciences is a vibrant intellectual space at the University of South Alabama. This Newsletter highlights some of the great people and great things in the College. In this Newsletter you will find informative articles about faculty members and a student. After reading the Newsletter, I think you will agree that the work that goes on here makes the College a special place at USA.
The first article focuses on Professor of History, Dr. Mara Kozelsky. She is currently hard at work on two related projects: one is a biography of a Russian Crimean War veteran and military philosopher; the other is a large, collaborative project dealing with translation and annotation of a range of Crimean Wartexts.
The second article is about Dr. Laura Moore, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Music. Dr. Moore became Chairperson in January after serving as Interim Chairperson during the fall 2018 semester. Her duties also include directing the Chorale and Concert Choir for her department.
The next article features Dr. John McCreadie, Professor of Biology, an entomologist who started at USA in the fall 1999 semester. He carries out research on stream insects in the eastern United States and in the nations of Brazil, Venezuela, Ecuador, and the Galapagos. His also studies tick and mosquito populations and the diseases they carry.
Dr. Wes Terwey, Assistant Professor of Meteorology and the subject of the fourth article, loves to teach Radar Meteorology and is involved in several aspects of severe weather research. He has been fascinated by weather and weather science all of his life.
The last article focuses on Ms. Madison Hunter, an English major who is very active
both on and off campus and has strong interests in poetry. After graduation, Madison
plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
I hope you enjoy reading the A & S Newsletter, and please share it with friends.
