Dear College of Arts and Sciences Faculty, Staff, and Friends of the College:

I’m very pleased to share with you the Spring 2020 College of Arts & Sciences Faculty Newsletter. In this issue you will find informative articles about three notable faculty members and a talented student in our College.

The first article features Dr. Lesley Gregoricka, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work. Dr. Gregoricka is a bioarchaeologist who co-directs the forensic studies minor in the College of Arts and Sciences with Dr. Sarah Koon-Magnin, Associate Professor of Political Science and Criminal Justice. As you will see from this article, Dr. Gregoricka is a cutting-edge researcher who is dedicated to student success.

The second article focuses on the exemplary research and teaching of Dr. Armin Straub, Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Statistics. Last fall, Straub received the Junior Faculty Research Award at the Dean’s Lecture. Originally from Germany, Straub completed his M.A. and his Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics at Tulane University.

The third article focuses on Sabrina de Jong, a senior who is majoring in Physics. Among her many accomplishments, Sabrina has participated in a research internship at Harvard University in the John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

The fourth and final article focuses on Dr. Matthew Pettway, Assistant Professor Spanish in the Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literature. Dr. Pettway is the author of Cuban Literature in the Age of Insurrection: Manzano, Plácido and Afro-Latino Religion, which was published in December 2019. His current research is directed toward recovering and examining little known black Cuban literary texts.

I hope that you enjoy reading the A & S Newsletter, and please share it with friends.

Sincerely,

Dr. Andrzej Wierzbicki
Dean
