Causeway Pitch

Causeway Pitch Competitors

The Melton Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (MCEI) hosted the finals of the second annual Causeway Pitch Competition on Friday October 27th at Fort Conde. The Causeway Pitch Competition is a two stage competition. First, students create a poster to promote their business or social idea. The creators of the highest scoring posters are then invited to deliver a 1-2 minute elevator pitch on a duck boat in the middle of the Mobile Bay.

29 student teams competed in the poster competition. The top twelve earned the opportunity to present their ideas live. Students from across campus, including Arts & Sciences, Business, Computing, and Engineering all competed for $6,000 in total prizes. The MCEI assisted students in preparation for this contest with online tutorials supplemented with extensive office hours. Some of the winners were:

  • Neal Patel & Emma Fairbanks, 1st Place, Marathon Processes
  • Anusha Sai, 2nd Place and Social Entrepreneurship Award, Easy Booking Electronic Bus
  • Zane Patterson, 3rd Place, Shade Savers
  • Madison Smith, Student Choice Award, Selling Yourself After Graduation

Judges included last year’s Causeway Pitch Competition Winner (Kobi Bell), local entrepreneurs and business people, and University of South Alabama Faculty.
