Chelsea R. Olson, M.D., administrative chief resident in general surgery, was elected chair of the House Staff Council, a self-governing body made up of the chief residents from each specialty residency program and a senior fellow from the subspecialty fellowships.

The council represents the interns, residents and fellows in the GME programs sponsored by USA Health on issues related to the clinical working environment. Members meet virtually on the first Wednesday of each month.

“I will strive to protect the existing strengths of our work and learning environments while thinking about ways we can improve,” Olson said in a letter to residents and fellows. “I have a particular interest in resident burnout and authentic wellness, and am eager to hear your ideas to help our residencies and fellowships thrive.”

A native of Denver, Colorado, Olson earned her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. She matched in general surgery at USA Health in 2018.

Olson created a periodical called House Staff Happenings, which will serve to update residents and fellows about upcoming events, current issues and important dates/changes.
